PROTECT YOUR Fabric Scissors! – a ribbon that says Fabric Only!

Your Fabric Scissors! PROTECT THEM with a ribbon that says No Paper! Fabric Only! For your sewing scissors and shears!

If you have ever cut fabric or ribbon, you know to follow that old famous advice:  “Measure twice, cut once!”  But only with with a really GOOD pair of fabric scissors! The most expensive ingredient in most home décor projects is your fabric, and you’ll end up wasting it if you don’t have good quality cutting tools. Don’t skimp on these important members of your sewing basket. It really is worth it to buy the very best you can afford. And to protect them, is such a simple lifetime investment!
Here in our office, we marked our “ribbon” fabric scissors with what:  A brightly colored piece of ribbon tied on the handle to indicate “Ribbon and Fabric Only” scissors.   Check this out for a wee bit of domestic humor and serious comments that helped me remember that I’m not the only one who needs to indicate “THE” pair of scissors to “Never use on paper – or Die” well, you know what I mean – in my scissor drawer!

Here are some quips or comments I enjoyed that confirmed my thoughts of this being a useful item for any crafter or sewer of fabrics….And NEEDING TO PROTECT THEIR FABRIC SCISSORS!

I had to have a talk with the family about how important my shears are to me and why i bought kitchen scissors for all their other stuff.

Since then … I can guarantee their safety 🙂

the sewing tools are very important not to use for everyday stuff like paper and chicken.  Hey, these are not poultry shears…. 🙂

Hi, my kids NEVER touched sewing things, My son, when he grew up, bought me the greatest set of sissors from Snap ON Tools. I lOVE them If you want the best, get them from Snap ON tools. you won’t regret it. they come in a beautiful case, and have three sizes . Good Luck To Everyone. Thank you, guyie

I always put my shears and scissors back where they belong, so of course, everyone knew where to go for them when they needed to cut something. So, I machine embroidered a lovely sampler I framed and hung above where I keep my best cutting tools. It reads: Touch these scissors and die! I still remember my young son’s face as he came out of my sewing studio the day after I hung that sampler. He had a concerned look and said, “You’re just kidding, Mom, right?” I gave him my best stern look and said, “No!” As far as I know, that was the last time he went in there to use the ‘good’ scissors!

I used to put a combination lock through the handles of my “good” scissors so that no one else could use them!

A combination lock? Oh Shana, how funny! My mom was like Carol, and used a stern look and dire warnings to keep us away from what we called her “fabric scissors”. I inherited those from her, and they are still sharp and useful–making me thankful that we paid attention.

i agree with regina! labelling the scissors is a very good idea! i just thought of it yesterday, after months of owning scissors and sewing machines! well, it’s never too late to start!

I mark all my shears and scissors “FABRIC ONLY”! Everyone knows how crazy I get about people using my scissors and shears…

My children would probably tell you that they grew up with the threat of a long, painful death if they ever used my good shears to cut anything. Even my husband would look at me and say things like, it’s just this little tag or piece of paper or whatever. I can still hear the words, “Don’t you dare”, coming out of my mouth. Needless to say, nobody died and I still have my good pair of shears after all these years!

I did see my hubby reaching for them one time when I was at the computer.. and I yelled out “OH NO YOU DON’T” and he looked at me like I was out of my mind… I then quietly said to get one of the other pairs….Never my fabric scissors!

Let’s see if these few décor ideas using customized ribbon can make your Christmas merrier!

Ribbon Garlands with Custom Printed Ribbon

Put aside the wreaths and the Christmas lights; it’s time for your custom printed ribbons to take their place on your mantels and window frames. A stunning textured matte holiday-themed personalized ribbon with metallic gold or silver will work perfectly.  The traditional satin is always just beautiful with a luxury quality double face satin ribbon so both sides gleam and reflect Christmas lights and candle glow.

Take a substantial length of ribbon and shape it into a Christmas garland, you can tie up the ribbon neatly into festive knots at intervals, and attach them securely using nails. Make sure to allow your ribbon to drape down a little between each nailed knot (about an inch below the hanging knot-tails). You can do this with one-colored ribbon, or combine two or more for a charming touch.

Ribbon Chair Covers spiffed up with your favorite holiday sentiment with Custom Printed Ribbon

Why leave the chairs looking drab and empty for a Christmas party, when everything else is decked out in greens and reds, or blue and gold, or green and gold, or pink and silver?  Whatever is your holiday color selection for this season.

Choose your ribbon according to the color theme, have it printed in complementing lettering, and just twist and twirl it around the chairs! You can be as creative as you like; tie up your customized ribbon into bows and knots, or use it as it is along the surfaces.

Next up: the tables…

Take another piece to loop it through the first circle, and tape it too.

Monday, August 14th, 2017 | Permalink

Four days have passed since the Monterey car week began. If you’ve been following our blog, you may have attended the kick-off party on our invitation. While you’re in Monterey to be there for the whole car week or just planning to visit Pebble Beach for the big Concours contest, if you’re not going to the Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours on the Avenue this morning, you’ll regret it later.

Just to be clear, the event is set for August 15, Tuesday. It’ll begin at 10 am and you’ll be able to covet gorgeous cars all through the day.

Carmel-by-the-Sea Concours

Carmel-by-the-Sea concours has been part of the Monterey car week tradition almost as long as the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance. For car lovers who visit California every year for the event of the year, attending Carmel’s Concours on the Avenue is a must-do exercise. People walk through the streets of the small town and relish the sights of endless classic cars, gleaming in the bright August sun. To get to meet the owners of these cars and hear them tell tales of the adventures they’ve had is something no visitor at the Concours wants to miss, especially if they are true lovers of the car.

What’s Waiting for You at the Concours on the Avenue?

Concours on Carmel’s mesmerizing world-renowned Ocean Avenue is a traditional affair of all kinds of beautiful cars that people drive down to the town for the contest.

The Ocean Avenue won’t be open for traffic the whole day and the streets of the town will be filled with incredible automobile beauty from all over the country. American and foreign makes and models will be parked across town, waiting for you to behold their majesty.

This year, Concours on the Avenue will host over 175 classic cars and the contest will be judged in a number of categories, including sports cars, hot rods, muscle cars, and luxury cars. You’ll be able to witness the real classics, such as Ferraris and Porches thru 1989 and Multi Marques thru 1973.

Carmel’s a truly beautiful place. Apart from the cars, you’ll witness the extraordinary architecture of the town, which is as whimsical as Arthur Rackham’s works (which were the inspiration for the architecture). The streets are lined with restaurants with delicious meals of many cuisines.

Once the prizing ceremony ends in the late afternoon, you should stick around to enjoy a wonderful dinner with your friends or family and end the day on a high note.

Concours on the Avenue has endless treats for car lovers, and you should be there today if you’re one.

Monterey Car Week Kick-Off: It’s TODAY!

Friday, August 11th, 2017 | Permalink

If you’re a classic car aficionado, you probably had this week marked in your calendar already, and you’re already waking up in one of those overbooked hotels down in Sand City, Pacific Grove, or Pebble Beach. But just in case you’re one of us common folk, and close to Monterey, CA, you can still have the best week of the summer what with the Monterey Car Week and Concours d’Elegance starting today!

Why You Must Go

It’s going to be a week full of automotive eye candy: classic, sports, collector, rare, quirky, and just about any adjective you can use for cars that make people drool.

If you’re a lover of cars, that’s reason enough. It doesn’t really matter whether you’re a proper tourist, planning on this event for months or just crashing the party on a shoestring budget. As long as you have money to find accommodation, you’ll do just fine. The beauty of the Concours is most of the events are going to allow free entry or you can just walk across the streets and let the cars come to you. After all, they are constantly being driven around.

200 collector cars will be competing in the Concours this year, but that competition is the last item on the list for this eventful week.

If you still need persuasion, last year’s Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance winner will be coming around this year.

What? That not good enough for ya? If Jaguar, bringing their rarest 1954 XK120 SE for its reveal since its restoration in New Zealand to the show, is what will take you to come join us. Well, that’s happening, too.

The Kick-Off Party This Evening

                    Picture2

Alvarado Street will see the car week kick off later today. Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca is hosting the party on Alvarado Street, which will remain closed between 3 pm to 8 pm up from Franklin Street all the way down to Del Monte Avenue.

The party will have lots of live music and 30 race cars with their drivers to celebrate the start of the car week.

So, don’t try to drive up to the street. Instead, park your car in the Downtown Parking Garage at Washington and Tyler Street and enjoy the evening on foot. If you’re not driving there, you might want to use the free MST Trolley service between Fisherman’s Wharf, Monterey, and Cannery Row between 10 am to 7 pm.

Whatever you do, make sure you get to Alvarado Street by 5 pm. That’s when the party begins.

And this will only be the start of a fun packed week for gearheads. If you’re one, you have got to be there. We’ll be waiting!
